Dojo Etiquette

KANAZAWA SHOTOKAN RYU is a traditional Shotokan Karate dojo based in Bannockburn, Central Scotland. Originally founded in 1982 by its Chief Instructor, Jim Palmer (a 6th Dan of the SHOTOKAN KARATE-DO INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION), the school is dedicated to teaching the traditional and ethical values of KARATE-DO (the Way or Path of the Empty Hand) as taught by the legendary Japanese master HIROKAZU KANAZAWA (10th Dan) Kancho.

An affiliated dojo of the SHOTOKAN KARATE KANAZAWA RYU INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION (U.K. Chief Instructor Mr Roger Carpenter, 6th Dan), and representative dojo of the S.K.I.F., the school is frequently visited by senior Japanese Sensei (teachers) including Kanazawa Kancho.

The dojo currently has branches in Stirling, Scotlands Capital City, Edinburgh and Scotland's Most Major City, Glasgow and are run by highly experienced and fully qualified instructors dedicated to teaching traditional Kanazawa Shotokan Ryu karate-do in the path of Kanazawa Kancho. Currently, the dojo has twelve Instructors holding governing body (SCOTTISH KARATE BOARD) qualifications (requiring 1st Aid certification and minimum NATIONAL COACHING FOUNDATION Level 2 or similar) and a Dan grade (black belt grade) awarded by S.K.I.F., Tokyo.

TRADITIONAL KARATE-DO

There are many personal benefits to be gotten from the practice of karate, in its component form, the more obvious being:

Personal Fitness, Self Defense, Sport and Self Awareness.

More so, in its entirety and as a personal discipline, traditional karate-do improves and maintains individual health, flexibility and mobility whilst developing a more disciplined and integrated character. Overall, this results in the daily ability of the traditional karateka (student of karate) to communicate and interact more readily with others on a personal and practical basis.
